Benefits Overview
Statutory Holidays
The Humane Society recognizes 11 provincial holidays including New Year’s Day, Family Day, Easter Friday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. We close at noon on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
During these timed we are closed to the public and operate with a smaller team to care for our animals.
We are conscientious that staff may observe other holidays and invite them to speak with our Senior Manager of People and Culture.
Health & Wellness
We feel that benefits are an important part of employee compensation. We offer comprehensive benefits to full-time (32+hr/week) staff including:
- Medical benefits
- Dental benefits
- Short Term Disability
- Life Insurance
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
We recognize that the animal welfare industry is prone to compassion fatigue, as well as staff being witness to very difficult situations. As a result, we feel it’s important to provide an Employee Assistance Program where staff can access support services from EAP Professionals when needed. Services are 100% confidential.
Pension
We feel strongly about supporting our staff in retirement planning and offer an employer matching pension plan for full time permanent team members.
Uniform Allowance
Each department has a uniform allowance for items such as scrubs, footwear or other staff clothing (varies by dept).
Employee Discounts
We provide a number of other employee discounts including:
- Free brewed coffee and tea
- Discounted Royal Canin retail line pet food
- Staff veterinary services through our on-site clinics
- Employee appreciation from our Board of Directors and Workplace Engagement Team, including a holiday gathering
Opportunity for Internal Applications
The Humane Society is committed to investing in its employees and supporting their professional growth and career advancement while under the employ of the company. As we post job opportunities, we openly invite current staff to apply internally.
Professional Development
We strongly believe in investing in education for our employees. Each department has a professional education budget to meet the needs of maintaining accreditations (veterinarians, RVT’s etc), as well to offer training, education and professional development.
The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth is an equal opportunity employer and supports workforce diversity. We welcome and encourage applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, as well as individuals of all abilities. Should you require accommodation during the recruitment process, please contact Human Resources.
