Working Cats

The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth’s Working Cat Program is designed to match cat lovers who own heated structures, such as a barn or workshop, with a cat that prefers to live in an indoor/outdoor setting. Adopters are still deemed to be their owner and are responsible for food, water, shelter and ensuring they have access to regular medical care.

Working Cats are feline companions that range in temperament from semi-social to very friendly. They may prefer to share your living arrangements from a distance, they may need a little time to warm up to you (treats work well) or they may harass you for love every day!

No matter their disposition, by adopting a Working Cat you give a cat a second chance at life in a loving forever home.

Working Cats have an adoption fee of $25 which includes their spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip, tattoo and ear tip.

If you’re interested in adopting a working cat, please fill out our working cat application and email it to:

If we don’t have any working cats available when you inquire, we do hold a waiting list. As soon as we have a suitable candidate, we will notify those waiting for their very own mouser!*

*The term ”Mouser” is used loosely. The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth will not be held liable should your mouser be ineffective at his or her job.
