Virtual Summer Camp at the Humane Society

The end of the school year is almost here, and if you’re anything like us, you’re getting excited about summer and looking to enroll your kids in summer camp.

Although some restrictions are being lifted, summer camps aren’t back to how they were in 2019. Camps have had to adapt; many have cancelled their in-person 2021 season or have downsized to just a few campers each week, leaving parents wondering what camp options are available for their kids this summer.

For many years, parents have trusted the Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth to ensure that their children are having fun, learning about responsible pet ownership and making friends – both with people and animals!

As we head into our second COVID-19 summer, the Humane Society will be offering a virtual summer camp instead of an in-person camp. At this time, remaining virtual is the best way for us to spread our animal education to as many people as possible.

After one week of summer camp, a parent once said, “this must be what it’s like to have a child with confidence.” Whether virtual or in-person, our summer camps are a place where your child can truly be themselves, and connect with campers who have the same passion for and interest in animals as your child.

Is virtual camp worth it? For many children, the answer is a huge yes! If your child is passionate about animals and you have the ability to get them online, there is no better way to spend the day. At our award-winning summer camps, we learn, we laugh, we move and we play. Your child can join us for full days, or just morning/afternoon sessions if you don’t want them on the screen for too long.

Worried your campers won’t thrive online? We hear this often. Our response is always to just give it a try! We have seen so many campers concerned about the online environment but after trying it, they love it and even ask to come back. We offer demonstration days that are free to join and give kids a great example of what a virtual camp day is like. Sign up for one of our camp demo days here: https://guestlist.co/events/686334

From what we’ve seen, the subject matter makes a big difference. If your camper loves the topic being explored, their engagement skyrockets. With the Humane Society, it’s an entire week of animals. Not only is the topic engaging, but our staff are as well.

After a previous virtual camp program, a parent said, “You are very good at engaging the children and rolling with the changes that have had to happen with technology. It is nice to have the variety of activities. I am really impressed with how much variety there is in a virtual format (videos, guests, crafts games). Thank you for providing such a calm, interesting camp that the kids can really participate in.”

This year, each week is a different theme ensuring that your camper finds one or more weeks that they are interested in. There’s Animal Adventurers, Wildlife Trackers, Vet Camp, Animal Careers, Animals and Art, Animal Care Camp and so much more. If your camper likes animals, they’ll find a community in one of our camp weeks. Check out all the camp weeks here: https://kwsphumane.ca/youth/summer-camp
