Emergency
Boarding
Program

The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth is proud to offer an Emergency Boarding Program in partnership with various social agencies and emergency services in Waterloo Region and Perth County. This program offers pet owners short-term housing for their pet(s) when experiencing a personal emergency or crisis.

Through this program, individuals or families working with these agencies can access emergency boarding services for their pets for a temporary period.  Our partnership referral agencies include:

  • Social agencies
  • Family and Children Services
  • Police, fire and EMS services
  • Homeless Shelters
  • Women's shelters
  • Emergency response services
  • Disaster response teams
  • Hospitals

If an individual has family or friends that can assist them, we ask that they exhaust all options (boarding kennel, vet clinic boarding, friend or family care for the pet etc.) before admittance into this program will be considered.

COVID-19 PANDEMIC

We recognize that pet owners will have questions about the safety and housing of their pets during a pandemic.

The most important step? Have an emergency plan for yourself and your family - one that includes your pets.

Being a responsible pet owner means that you need to make plans for your pet should you fall ill and not be able to care for them or become hospitalized. Download this Pet Care Plan for a list of items you should prepare, as well as a fillable template that you should keep readily available of your pet's critical information.

While the Humane Society has an emergency boarding program, the program's focus is to assist those who truly have no options available to them to care for their pet.

Should an individual find themselves in a crisis, the agency that they are working with can reach out to the Humane Society on their behalf to discuss the situation and make arrangements.

As much as we wish that we could help everyone, our focus needs to remain on those pets that truly have nowhere else to go. We appreciate your understanding.
