Summer Camp

Kitchener Camp: 250 Riverbend Dr, in Kitchener, ON.
Stratford Camp: 125 Griffith Road, Stratford, ON

• Water bottle
• Wear clothes they can move in

• Bug spray and Sunscreen (mandatory every day)

- Electronics (No phones at camp!)

• 9:00am - 4:00pm. Early drop off begins at 8:45am. Late pickup is from 4:30pm - 5:00pm. Any camper picked up between 4:30pm and 5:00pm will be charged $7/day, and $1 per minute after 5:00pm.

Children are split into groups of similar ages, and the curriculum may differ depending on your child’s age. All age groups will be together during presentations, camp wide games, and breaks. If you would like two campers to be in the same group, it MUST be requested prior to the camp start. We cannot accommodate groups larger than three in one group. Once camp begins, there are no changes.

A typical camp day begins with sign in, and the children break into their groups. Children can expect a centre tour of the centre, physical activities, games, a daily craft as well two snack breaks and a lunch break. Campers can also look forward to presentations by other organizations and the opportunity to engage in special activities with animals.

If appropriate animals are available, our campers will get to meet them. Not all animals have a temperament that makes them a good candidate for camp. Please keep in mind when considering animal interactions that we must carefully balance the experience of our campers with the best interests of our animals. We select animal interactions that will provide a quality experience for our campers while keeping our animal’s well-being in mind.
We aim to have all children at camp meet a minimum of 1 animal each day and on some days of camp, children have met more than 5 animals. That said, there may be days where there are no appropriate animals to meet.

Our camp is able to accommodate many different needs. That being said, not every camp is the best fit for every child. For safety reasons, due to the location of the camp, as well staff ratios and the needs of our animals, there are certain behaviours and needs which we cannot accommodate, including violence and running away.
Children must also be able to take care of themselves physically (changing, toileting, etc). We do not offer any one on one support. Children needing personal support for behaviour or physical needs must provide their own Personal Support Worker.
Our camp takes place both indoor and outdoors, in a park-like setting. Campers with mobility wheelchairs have attended our program successfully, but some chairs may have difficulty getting around our space. We do not have staff available to keep some children inside and some out – we go everywhere together! Please contact us before registering to make sure that our camp is the right fit for your child.

It is possible that a child may be uncomfortable around a certain animal, and at no point will a camper be forced to interact with an animal. In many cases, children have overcome fears at our camp, even petting or holding the animals they were once frightened of!

Campers are asked not to bring nut products to camp, however, our staff is not in a position to take food away from our campers if a parent does pack nut products. We also cannot guarantee that the food used at the Humane Society for our animals is nut free.
Our camps provide an option for cheese or pepperoni pizza on Fridays. The shops we partner with do not offer allergen friendly options. Campers that cannot eat regular crust or dairy on pizza are encouraged to bring their own pizza, or a different lunch option.
